“Adaptability” is a great thing. I just hope it won’t get to the ridiculous level. Imagine an expensive all-on-one communication device that detecting speech patterns of the elderly hides internet-, music-, messaging-, etc-related functions, leaving only a contact list of five persons (displaying them in giant font size). Designing dedicated “elderphones” makes more sense.
And as for simplifying menu structure for elder users – in a well-designed UI there’s nothing to simplify. You can call it a rule. Take for example “single-level interface” that displays active contacts at the top of the list. You can’t radically simplify it. Users “with minimal technical abilities” won’t go further than recent contacts. Others will easily find other features. |
